Commencement

University Procession

The University Procession, one of Brown's greatest and oldest traditions, brings together the entire Brown community in a festive and joyous celebration.

9:45 A.M.

The University Procession steps off through Faunce Arch promptly at 9:45 a.m. and is led by the chief marshal, a member of the 50th Reunion class. All graduating students march through the Van Wickle Gates twice during their Brown education: inward as incoming students during Convocation and outward as new graduates during Commencement.

Alumni who have returned for Reunion march with their classes. Once the last person is through the Van Wickle Gates, the Procession inverts and alumni and undergraduates continue down College Street, with each participant applauding the others.

Wristband Requirement

All graduating students must be wearing registered smart wristbands to participate in the University Procession, and to access the College Green area for the University Ceremony and other events on Sunday.
